(Inuit, b. 1942), Opposing Shaman Vase, Rankin Inlet / Kangiqliniq, 2004, low-fired earthenware, terra sigillata (colored slip), signed and dated beneath, overall: 13"h x 9"w x 8.5"d.
During his years as a sculptor, Samgusak spent a long period exploring shamanistic radiating masks and this is an outstanding example. (Last photo shows artist with a similar piece.) Dated ‘04 and signed “Samgushak” on the base.
Condition:
Excellent condition as shown in photos. There is a small line of separation on the tip of one nose, though it is still intact. Please ask questions or request additional photos before buying.
