Lionel Standard Gauge 385E Loco with 385W Tender.
Have had this for many years as a display in my personal office.
I tested the engine last year and it ran ok for a while but electronic unit was sticking so that will need to be serviced. I tried the whistle in the tender as well. It seems to want to go but I could not get any sound out of it. Like the engine, will need to be serviced by a knowledgeable and competent person.
Also when I got the engine a few parts were loose from the locomotive. The “Chugger” unit was separated along with wiring and the rear truck which seems to need the wheels pressed closer together as they don’t sit right when placed on the track. Otherwise the engine displays very well and the gears and drive wheels move very smoothly. Engine tender and shell look to be complete of all the original trim and components. I’m assuming it is the original paint but am not 100% sure. It is a little loose on the boiler front and one of the side drive rods is missing which I believe is readily available in aftermarket or at train meets via specialty vendors.
All in all, a great engine with a little work that will be a centerpiece of your holiday or year round layout. Also just a beautiful piece to display on your family mantle or on your back office credenza!
